Digipak final

This is my last digipak. I decided to take inspiration from You Me At Six's album Sinners never sleep and have some photos that come out of the slots on the right hand side. I also wanted the audience to have a little added bonus for buying the album so there is a slot on the left hand side is a DVD documentary 'Rising Up' of how the band started up, showing footage of them playing in local pubs. This may convince the audience to but the digipak as they feel as if they are getting a present for buying the album.

Digipak 7th draft

I haven't changed much on my digipak, i added a shadow on the text to make it easier to read and to make it stand out more. However i am still not sure about the white text contrasting with the black text, as only one pannel of the digipak has black and the others have white. I will ask my target audience of their opinion on it and if it isn't a problem i will keep it as it is.

Results

The first idea only got one vote, this was the idea i was least happy with. I found an image online of a scratch effect and put it over the image and turned the opacity down to make it look like the images had scratches on them.

I continued to did this with the others. The second idea again only got one vote which i found disappointing as i quite like that one as i felt it gave the digipak a more vintage look.

Finally, idea three got nine votes and 81% liked this one the best. This is the image that has the screwed up paper effect on it. I am pleased that this is the one my audience chose it was one of my favourites and i have decided to keep the design of it and just make a few minor changes to make it look even better.

4th draft

This is my new digipak. i made some small changes like changing the typography to something called 'super rad' this, i feel, is a lot more bold and stands out. It related to the genre more as it is similar to artists like Lana del rey and Haim.

I also changed the back picture of the river at danson this matches with the interior image as we are standing infront of the river.

Digipak: Daft 3

This is my new idea for my digipak. After hearing feedback from class mates, they suggested changing the interior image as it was back light and came to be a bit blurry. It is for this reason that i went back to the pictures from Danson and had a play around with some of the photos to see what each would look like as a interior image.  I chose this one as i felt it was bright enough and not blurry. I also think that it is a goo image as it is a long shot and therefore shows the band are more about the music than their image.

I think i will defiantly keep the interior panel as one photo as most digipaks i have looked at have one image inside. I want to keep the lyrics as the main focus of the album is the song "Suddenly i See".

2nd December

I had a discussion with Sinead today about what will make my digipak better. She suggested adding different images as it doesn't appear to be a Indie group, i have now decided to take more photos of the the band and replace the back (track listing) photo and the bottom right one, i am hoping this will make it look better.

Digipak: 2nd draft

This is the second draft of my digipak. I am happy with the way it has turned out and think it has made more of an improvement than before. I will ask for feedback from Leanne and Sinhead to see whether they like the improvements i have made and the new photos.

I edited the contrast on the back of the digipak so it is still light but the typography shows through more clearly than before. As Leanne suggested last time if i was to have the inner panel one photo that i would have to add something on it, i decided to use the lyrics from the song "suddenly i see" so the panel isn't  so plain, i feel like it works well as the album is mainly based on that song.

I feel the close up represents the record labels needs on how to sell the band, and as its their first album it is common to find close ups of the band so the the audience get an idea of who the band are.

Digipak photo shoot

These are some of the pictures from the photo shoot, it is not all as their was 236, i narrowed it down to the ones i considered to use for my digipak. I will considered Sinnead and Leanne's opinion.

Digipak edit

I wanted our front picture to be a close up of our faces but the original picture didn't match the others. I then decided to cut the background out and added in a picture of the grass. I smudged the edges so the picture didn't sit on top of the background, and i am very happy with the way it has turned out.

18th November

After hearing feedback about my digital from Leanne and the class I have decided to start my second draft of my digipak. On Friday we went to megs house to take some more pictures. We tried to take as many as possible and ended up with 236 photos that I sorted through today and decided on which ones I wanted for my digipak. However I have decided to keep one of my old images from the ones we took in danson. This is because I feel the image is the only suitable one for the inner panel. Although I have taken Leanne's advice on board and have added text onto the pictures so its not to bland.

15th: digipak photos

As we received feedback that our digipak wasn't working well, we have decided to do a photo shoot today, we took some pictures at megan's house and then needing to reshoot some at danson. For example we experimented with taking ones laying down and ones that we had drawn out for our initial idea on our digipaks. We also took many other ones that will posted soon, i will experiment will mixing around with the photos and see which one my target audience will like best and take their advice.

Back of digipak: Tracklist

This is my new idea for the picture for my digipak. I have used the photos we took from danson and brought down the contrast so the typography is more clear and readable. I hope this is an improvement from the last digipak.

Digipak: first draft

This is the first draft of my digipak. I was happy with the out come of the draft. However, after speaking to leanne i realise that we need to take some more pictures as some of the pictures are not good. For example the inter pannel is stretched as it is one image and i wanted it to fit across three pannels. I am planning to take some more pictures with the girls next friday and try some of our original ideas as we didn't bother taking them last time. I am planning to keep the typography, however, after hearing from leanne that it is not easy to read i have decided to keep the typography white but change the contrast of the background, just making the trees a bit darker. I also received feedback from my target audience that they like the CD so i am thinking about keeping that too.

6th November

Today i decided to use photoshop to put all my pictures together on my digipak. I have changed the typography on them to leaf1 i feel this one conveys our genre the best. I made the typography on the digipak white so it stands out, this was suggested by one of my target audience. I decided on one image to run through the inner pannel and then three separate ones for the bottom. This will be ready for feedback from the class on monday.

Digpak Pictures

I made a short video of all of our digipak photos, this will be shown on monday so if the class this one of the other pictures we took is more approiate they can suggest it and we can change it so it is more suitable for our audience

4th November

Today we took pictures for our digipaks. Although the whether was bright, the ground was still damp from were it had rained earlier. Therefore we was unable to take some of the pictures that we had originally planned to take. However we improvised through the pictures and managed to take some pictures that we already planned to take. I am very pleased with the way it has turned out, some of the pictures are better than i expected them to be. I'm hoping that our audience will like them just as much as i do, i will create a survey soon to see what they think of it.

Digipak Ideas

These are my ideas for After Midnights digipak. The front shows the girls all laying down on the grass with their hair everywhere, this shows the nature side and is the theme to the album. On the left panel is a picture of the girls looking directly to the camera making the audience feel connected to them, it is also the only image that shows the girls looking towards the camera, engaging the audience, making them feel as if the album is aime specially towards them. This idea came from You Me At Six's album 'Sinners Never Sleep'.

The inside is all one image of the girls, laying down with empty bottles of vodka, alcohol, rubbish surrounding them. This idea came from the name, as the name gives connotations of staying up late and partying i wanted to display this within the digipak. I also wanted the digipak to show a narrative, so the first few images are when the girls are first out and about and the inside is toward the end.

I wanted the back image to be simple, so not taking any attention away from the song listing. The back shows the girls later, only showing the back of their figures with the sun setting behind them. I have thought about the typography of the bands name and the track listing to be in white as it has been said to be the most readable colour.

As the band are an indie rock band i wanted to give the audience a treat as most indie rock artist do, i decided to make a DVD of  the band called 'Rising Up' that will feature them at concerts and a little documentary into the band. The title 'Rising Up' comes from the band starting in secondary school and gadually making their way to fame, hense the rising. The album also contains three individual pictures of the band, this idea again comes for You Me At Six's album.
