Track list survey results

I am really happy with the results I found from the track list survey. Generally everyone knew the genre of the artist, and all agreed that they, either would listen to it or would consider it.

Based on the results from the question 'how do you think it could be improved' I think I will make the track list longer, as suggested by a respondent. I will also change the order of the songs to make sure they don't clash and flow through instead of 'fast/slow/fast'.

Typography

After presenting our pitch to the class and receiving feedback, we found that people disagreed with our typography and believed that it made it look gothic, someone on my survey said it looked like a restaurant sign. I decided to look on dafont for some other ideas on what our bands logo/ typography could be. These are my choices.

Track list survey.

I have created a survey based on my track listing. I have done this so that i can get my target audiences opinion and feedback, i can also make improvements if the results show that the audience think it could be better. I will check the results in a week and post them, also including the changes made.

Story boarding

I'm really happy with the progress we made today. We decided to start story boarding today, as we had already planned some of our shots in the previous lesson it wasn't as hard as we thought it was going to be. We have now completed up to the second chorus of the song and are planning to complete it in thrusdays lesson.

22nd of October

We had planned to shoot today, for our digipaks, however it started raining so we had to postpone it. As our pictures are based outside, weather is key. We had planned to have an autumn theme with some sun so for this feel to come through we'll have to shoot soon.

Equipment for photo shoot

• Empty bottles of vodka, alcohol, rubbish showing connotations of the name
• Acoustic guitar 
• Microphone stand

The rest is up top the location, we tried to keep the props as simple as possible so we leave the photo to do the talking.

21st October

Today we decided to discuss our digpaks. Although we are doing them individually we still have similar ideas and the locations for the pictures are the same, we just have different props and costume ideas. We decided we should shoot for our pictures tomorrow, this will be a first draft so it can be improved if the pictures are terrible. We can show them to our target audience and see whether they think it can be improved further.

These are the ideas for my tracklist on my digipak. I have put together a video of songs that give an idea of our band and have also wrote the names of the songs. It may be an idea to show this to my target audience to see wether they will like the songs and to get some feedback.

As our artist is made up of 3 girls and the song we have chosen (suddenly i see) is about women power we have chosen to have just the artist in the video, showing them is various locations and showing their independence, breaking the female stereotype.

Costume ideas.

These are what we would like our band to be wearing in the music video and in my digipak. I wanted to show the genre through the clothing so i looked at people like Lana Del Rey and she tended to wear flowering clothing. We also like the idea of bagging clothing like jumpers which also seems to be a common theme within this genre.

14th October

We had planned to take our pictures for our digipak today, however the weather was not suited for our genre. It started raining and we wanted autumn weather to fit in with the indie feel. Instead, we decided to plan our music video in depth, starting to plan shots and locations. We also decide that, like Haim we have all of our band to be the singers and not to stick to the codes and conventions of usual indie rock bands.

Survey Results.

These are the results from our audience survey. We are very pleased with our results, most answers were positive, and the criticism was constructive so we can take it on board when making our digipak's and music video.

We are going to tyr our typography in white, as suggested and see if it works with our genre. We think it may be a good idea as white is a easily readable colour.

Blog feedback

Labels, i have recently added these to the side of my blog to make it more accesable and easy to get to the post you want.

Brief change; i've added in the initial task into the top of the brief

I need to however add more to my posts and go into more depth with them. I also need to show the relevance to artist in each post.
Journal posts need to be every week and explain the progress since the last, so i will make an effort to keep everything up to date.

Voice record discussions; this would make the blog more fun and easier than to type up every single discussion.

10th October

We have started discussing ideas for our music video, we made a video on final cut pro that shows all our ideas through pictures we found off the interent. We have now decided to film in various locations so that it is not all in the same place. As the label we are with, rough trade, are based in london we thought it would be a good idea to film there as well as; Hall place, Danson park, and Local woods. These locations will show the band as being nature like other artist that appeal to us. We have found this in many different music video's when analysising and deciding what would be the right location for us. We are hoping to start storying boarding on Tuesday.

Digipak Ideas

 

These are my ideas for After Midnights digipak. The front shows the girls all laying down on the grass with their hair everywhere, this shows the nature side and is the theme to the album. On the left panel is a picture of the girls looking directly to the camera making the audience feel connected to them, it is also the only image that shows the girls looking towards the camera, engaging the audience, making them feel as if the album is aime specially towards them. This idea came from You Me At Six's album 'Sinners Never Sleep'. 

The inside is all one image of the girls, laying down with empty bottles of vodka, alcohol, rubbish surrounding them. This idea came from the name, as the name gives connotations of staying up late and partying i wanted to display this within the digipak. I also wanted the digipak to show a narrative, so the first few images are when the girls are first out and about and the inside is toward the end.

I wanted the back image to be simple, so not taking any attention away from the song listing. The back shows the girls later, only showing the back of their figures with the sun setting behind them. I have thought about the typography of the bands name and the track listing to be in white as it has been said to be the most readable colour.

As the band are an indie rock band i wanted to give the audience a treat as most indie rock artist do, i decided to make a DVD of  the band called 'Rising Up' that will feature them at concerts and a little documentary into the band. The title 'Rising Up' comes from the band starting in secondary school and gadually making their way to fame, hense the rising. The album also contains three individual pictures of the band, this idea again comes for You Me At Six's album.

We created a survey for our audience so we could get a bit of feedback about the audience to see on our artist and their progress so far, we will look at the results in a weeks and post them. We are hoping they will give us some insight on what we can do to make our artist more appealing.
